Biomechanics blog 2

Palpating bony landmarks when measuring ROM allows for proper alignment of the goniometer during measurements and proper stabilization of the landmarks. This is important for intrarater and interrater reliability to make sure accurate measurements are being recorded and no compensatory movements are occurring.

The purpose of positioning during MMT is important for proximal stabilization and for greatest muscle contraction against gravity or in a gravity eliminated position. In a gravity eliminated position, you are removing the resistance component for the particular movement for the client by placing them in a position parallel to the ground. This allows for the movement to be modified giving the client the ability to successfully perform the movement.
